The one glove technique; a protocol which facilitates efficient surgery assistance within the confines of cross-infection control protocol.
© Dr. Christopher Telford 2004
This paper introduces a simple protocol to prevent cross infection in the clinical setting that appears to be overlooked in many non-theatre situations. Non-theatre clinical situations (one or no assistants) have been established and universally based on theatre protocol (two or more assistants) thereby leading to a false premise and false practice; to universally poor cross-infection control protocol (CICP).
The true premise is that the clear definition of the boundary between contaminated and non-contaminated, between scrubs assistant and scout assistant, is lost when one or no assistants are employed. Therefore to copy aseptic technique in the name of CICP, is false.
This paper defines the boundary, with the introduction of the concepts:
With one vector, one break from protocol, a simple linear chain can become an exponential chain.
